This additional W38 studio selection explores five panel treatments: Honeycomb Smock, Corded Tide, Ribbon Lattice, Knot Halo and Foil Faultlines. It is a separate set from the W38 cord, fringe and open-weave selection. Use the technique names as well as the A/B/C option when referring to these studies.

All images are concept renders from AUTRON's 2026 Techniques catalogue. Materials and colours are proposed development options, not confirmed stock, finished samples or verified performance claims.

Honeycomb Smock: geometric volume in soft panels

A diamond-cell arrangement introduces a gathered, padded appearance for hobo fronts and pouch bodies. The same geometry looks different on matte fabric, a suede-touch surface and a reflective satin.

AUTRON concept render: Honeycomb Smock: geometric volume in soft panels — three proposed material and colour combinations

Suggested material combinations — A: sand matte nylon with tonal tacks. B: oxblood micro-suede with burgundy tacks. C: silver satin with graphite tacks.

Sampling focus — Develop the forming method, tack placement and material take-up on a trial panel. Confirm how the cells recover after compression and how the textured area joins the plain edges.

Corded Tide: broad quilted waves

Broad flowing channels are proposed for flaps, crossbodies and soft shoulder panels. The visual aim is a calm wave pattern rather than a dense all-over motif.

Suggested material combinations — A: chalk matte PU with off-white stitching. B: cobalt nylon with navy stitching. C: espresso velvet with cocoa stitching.

Sampling focus — Compare channel depth, backing and stitch tension. Check the relief at seam allowances and curved edges; the finished panel needs to retain the intended softness when assembled.

Ribbon Lattice: interlaced strips on a backing

Folded strips create an over-under rhythm with the backing visible between them. This is a panel study for totes, barrel bags and side panels, distinct from an unsupported open basket.

Suggested material combinations — A: tobacco PU over sand micro-suede. B: indigo denim over ecru canvas. C: olive twill over black satin.

Sampling focus — Check strip-edge finishing, slit reinforcement and movement between layers. Review the weave repeat against the bag dimensions, including where strips terminate at the seam.

Knot Halo: couched cords and compact knots

Offset abstract loops leave open space around the cord path. It is a way to introduce a concentrated tactile accent on a tote, hobo or smaller pouch.

Suggested material combinations — A: charcoal canvas with ecru boucle cord. B: plum velvet with garnet rayon cord. C: ice-blue nylon with silver cord.

Sampling focus — Confirm couching stitches, knot security and surface snagging. Compare the reverse and backing so the decoration does not create unwanted stiffness or interfere with a pocket.

Foil Faultlines: restrained metallic accents

Narrow metallic lines interrupt a mostly matte surface. The intended effect is a controlled flash along recessed paths, with possible applications on flaps, vanity bags and rounded minis.

AUTRON concept render: Foil Faultlines: restrained metallic accents — three proposed material and colour combinations

Suggested material combinations — A: taupe micro-suede with antique-brass foil. B: black fine-grain PU with gunmetal foil. C: dusty-lilac canvas with soft-pewter foil.

Sampling focus — Treat the recessed transfer effect as a development target. Confirm substrate compatibility, adhesion and flex resistance. Keep the finish clear of edge paint, zipper abrasion and stitch channels where required.

From a surface direction to a bag sample

Select the panel name and material option, then indicate where it will sit on the bag. Include the proposed bag size and the desired hand feel. A small material trial should resolve the surface process before the design is carried across edges, corners and closure zones.

Send the technique name, selected colour/material option, intended bag shape, target quantity and development timing. AUTRON can review material availability and the next sampling step for the project.
