A textured collection does not need every style to use the same construction. AUTRON Techniques W40 compares compact crochet, looped embroidery, soft stencil effects, curved patchwork and shallow smocking. The selection includes both raised craft surfaces and flatter material treatments for everyday bags.

All images are concept renders from AUTRON's 2026 Techniques catalogue. Materials and colours are proposed development options, not confirmed stock, finished samples or verified performance claims.

Compact Crochet Ribs: a textured face with backing

Dense looped ribs and narrow open channels are proposed for bound inserts, relaxed totes and pouch fronts. An opaque backing is part of the concept and should be reviewed with the crochet face.

Suggested material combinations — A: oatmeal cotton cord with ivory cotton twill backing. B: espresso suede-touch ribbon with chocolate twill backing. C: sage nylon cord with tonal nylon backing.

Sampling focus — Trial stretch control, backing attachment and edge binding. Attach handles through a separately reinforced structure. The crochet loops should not be treated as an established load path.

Looped Knot Embroidery: short loops and contour islands

Clustered knots and short loops give plain surfaces a softly raised pattern. A front panel or pocket face offers a focused area to compare the effect before extending it across a whole bag.

Suggested material combinations — A: ecru cotton canvas with cobalt embroidery. B: cocoa suede-touch base with tobacco wool-blend yarn. C: black matte nylon with graphite polyester embroidery.

Sampling focus — Review loop anchoring, snagging, shedding and rub behaviour. Keep pile clear of zippers and compare the backing's effect on hand feel; the same yarn density may behave differently on each base.

Soft Stencil Wash: expressive print without added layers

Overlapping abstract shapes and soft edges keep the textile grain visible. The direction is proposed for casual totes, pouches and compact crossbodies where a printed surface can provide interest without raised decoration.

Suggested material combinations — A: unbleached cotton canvas with ink-blue pigment print. B: tobacco suede-touch microfibre with terracotta and cocoa print. C: silver nylon twill with moss and charcoal print.

Sampling focus — Confirm a compatible print system for each base. Trial colourfastness, edge definition and hand feel on the selected article. A treatment approved for canvas should not automatically be transferred to nylon.

Soft Patchwork Seams: quiet contrast between materials

Curved joins combine different textile surfaces within one panel. Tonal combinations keep attention on the material contrast, offering a starting point for everyday totes, soft shoulders and zip pouches.

Suggested material combinations — A: oatmeal cotton canvas with ivory twill. B: chocolate soft leather with tobacco brushed suede. C: navy matte nylon with slate-blue ripstop.

Sampling focus — Compare seam bulk, stretch and colour transfer. Review loaded joins with reinforcement, and check the complete panel after assembly. Materials that look compatible may still need different handling.

Offset Smocked Cells: gathered cloth with shallow relief

Small tack points gather the cloth into softly offset cells. Poplin, satin and nylon give the same broad idea three different light responses for pouches, inset fronts and compact occasion bags.

Suggested material combinations — A: butter-yellow cotton poplin with tonal thread. B: burgundy matte satin with wine tacks. C: smoke nylon taffeta with charcoal tacks.

Sampling focus — Trial tack security, material take-up and recovery. Finish the gathered area into a plain top band where the design needs a clean opening; confirm the final dimensions after forming the texture.

From a surface direction to a bag sample

For everyday ranges, compare the flatter stencil and patchwork options alongside the raised crochet and embroidery surfaces. For smaller occasion bags, sample the smocked panel with its intended top band and closure. Select by technique name and A/B/C combination so the team can identify the correct route.

Send the technique name, selected colour/material option, intended bag shape, target quantity and development timing. AUTRON can review material availability and the next sampling step for the project.
